PUBLIC NOTICE WESTERN IRRIGATION DISTRICT WATER ACT NOTICE OF APPLICATION Notice is given that Western Irrigation District filed an application in 2000 for a licence under the provisions of the Water Act to divert water up to a maximum of 43,172 cubic decametres (35,000 acre-feet) annually at a maximum rate of 28.3 cubic metres per second (1,000 cubic feet per second) from the Bow River through the works of the Western Headworks System on the SE 13-024-01-W5M (within the City of Calgary) for Irrigation purposes. The additional volume requested by this application is for the expansion of the Western Irrigation District to meet irrigation demand. This application was received and deemed complete prior to the 2006 government decision to no longer accept new applications for surface water allocations in the Bow River Basin. The application is subject to the Water Act, the Instream Objectives (IOs) for the Bow River, the Approved Water Management Plan for the South Saskatchewan River Basin (Alberta) and the Bow, Oldman, and South Saskatchewan River Basin Water Allocation Order.
